Angelilli in Pacentro, Italy, 2023

I strive to freely explore the history of art and the essence of paint to produce work as a kind of historical entity. For example, I’m influenced by places and artifacts such as The Venus of Willendorf, or Civita di Bagnoregio. It is here where I was empowered to live, work, and study the art and architecture of one of Italy’s most significant landmarks.

My art practice includes painting, drawing, and sculpture, but most recently I’ve shied away from traditional art making materials and use car seat headrests as a painting surface. In other words, the headrests are made through a series of carefully thought out steps which allows the solvents I use to bond with the paint as well as other materials. This tedious process challenges me to appropriate the work and maintain a sense of wonder as each piece is made.

I’m most interested in the liveliness of paint and how people use it to document existence. This said, I persist to produce work that is raw, minimal, and intimate.
